Sure if your an inexperienced stylist! Our one and only job is to provide full services for our clientele. When we leave our job in the hand of our clients they aren’t as taken care of lol. Why should stylist charge extra for detangling anyways. Though it is one of the tedious parts of the wash experience especially for clients with longer hair this step should be mandatory.



Let’s walk you through the Wash Process, this should last about 25-30 minutes.


  • Properly Drape your client

  • Detangle your client

  • Wet the hair thoroughly

  • Begin to lather the hair with your shampoo choice

  • Start from the hairline ‘til you reach the back

  • Massage and lather the scalp over the whole head

  • Repeat this process multiple times until the scalp is clean

  • Rinse thoroughly

  • Repeat the rinse, lather & massage steps

  • Apply conditioner with a thorough massage

  • Rinse the conditioner

  • Towel dry your client

  • Detangle your client once more after they’ve been seated back at your station

It’s also important to sculpt the scene out when it comes to your clients scalp condition and overall health.


This is where client consultations come in so that as the stylist or your client isn’t blind sided by any extra service add-ons that might fluctuate the price of the service based on the conditions of their hair. There should be a record of previous services for returning clients so that the consistency of further treatments can stay on the right track moving forward.


Records of your clients history should include:

The condition of their hair

Current Treatments

Techniques used for previous services

Any upsold products


It can also be useful for your records if your clients fill out an intake form that as questions as simple as

“ How often do you style your hair?”
“ What kinds of shampoo & conditioner do you use?”
“ What type of problems do you experience with your hair?”

These records can be a help to your upselling products, assisting you with choosing the best products for your client.
