Two of the most popular extension types today used for installs are bundles, K-tip extensions, and tape-ins that come extensions can come in human K-tip (Keratin tip) extensions are individual strands that are bonded to your natural hair using a keratin adhesive. This method allows for a natural, seamless look, with flexible movement, and can last up to six months with proper maintenance. Tape-in extensions involve small wefts of hair that are adhered to your natural hair using adhesive tape. These lie flat against the scalp and are less bulky, offering comfort and a natural look. Tape-ins typically need to be reapplied every six to eight weeks.

One of the most important aspects of caring for hair extensions, whether bundles, K-tips, or tape-ins, is the temperature when you're washing. Human hair calls for lukewarm water because hot water can strip the hair. If you don't use many products on your natural hair, when you shop you should be looking for hydration, moisturizer, and detangle prevention products to soften up the hair extensions. Human extensions don't need to be washed as often but when the hair is washed it's important to use conditioner.

Depending on how much product you've accumulated on the hair during your style, you may want to wash this hair after every few wears.

When brushing, always start at the bottom and work your way up, holding the roots to prevent damaging the wefts, which can cause them to loosen. This is best to do while the hair is wet for a good detangle and less hair loss on the extensions. Sulfates can weaken the adhesive in both K-tip and tape-in extensions, which makes them slip out or loosen prematurely. Focus on gently massaging the scalp rather than scrubbing the extensions directly, this will prevent unnecessary stress on the bonds. Let the shampoo naturally work its way down through the lengths of your hair, avoiding excessive scrubbing of the extensions themselves. For conditioning, avoiding the roots and focusing on the mid-lengths and ends is essential, where your natural hair needs hydration without compromising the adhesive.

By following these steps and taking a thoughtful approach to your hair care routine, you can ensure your extensions last as long as possible while maintaining their natural look and feel. With the right products and techniques, you’ll be able to enjoy beautiful, long hair for months without the need for constant salon visits.
